Action for Rail held protests at 11 East Coast Mainline Line stations this morning, against government plans to re-privatise the route. Thanks to everyone’s hard work we were able to get a good turnout across and handout flyers to commuters about what the government plans would mean for the service.
By this end of this year East Coast Mainline will have generated over £800 million for the Treasury – a fact highlighted by campaigners in Leeds today.
In London, TSSA General Secretary Manuel Cortes joined TUC head of Organisation and Services Kevin Rowan and staff from the RMT, Unite and ASLEF to protest against giving the line back to private operators.
And in Doncaster, campaigners joined local MPs Rosie Winterton and John Healey to highlight concerns local people have about the risks to the high standard of rail services to the area.
Newcastle supporters and local trades unionists helped take the message to commuters.
If you support the campaign, please help us get the message over to our elected representatives and get this reckless and damaging privatisation stopped.
Send a message to your MP with our campaign action.
