Action for Rail and coalition partners are planning campaign actions along the East Coast Mainline on 7 March 2014, to coincide with the start of the Lib Dem Spring Conference in York.
Campaigners are calling on Liberal Democrat MPs to Keep the East Coast Mainline in public hands and oppose plans to privatise this successful public train company. Since being under public ownership, passenger satisfaction rates for the East Coast Mainline are amongst the highest for train operating companies, the company provides an income of up to £800m to the treasury, and since 2011 it has received 35 industry awards.
The government’s plans to sell off the East Coast Mainline are purely ideological and ignore the company’s improving performance under public ownership.
Join our campaign actions on 7 March at the following stations:
Bristol Temple Meads – 18.40
Edinburgh Waverly (Market Street) 07.00-09.00
Hebdon Bridge 08.00-09.00
London-Kings Cross (Kings Cross Square, adjacent to Euston Road) 07.30-09.00
York – 13.00-14.00
We will be handing out action cards to commuters, and at York we will be leafleting MPs and organising a stunt.
